About Grace Korean Language & Culture School

Hello! We warmly welcome you to the online website of our Grace Korean Language & Culture School.

As our Grace Community Church passed the 10th anniversary of its foundation, this school was established in 2012 to spread God’s great grace and love to the world, and to provide an educational platform where the next generation of students can learn about our Korean language, culture, and history within God’s love.

FAQ

For current students, the homeroom teacher will inform you of a promotion to a new grade level, along with your report card, at the end of the school year. For new students, a preliminary Korean language and skill test will be conducted and evaluated to identify the student’s Korean level, and afterwards they will be placed into a class accordingly. However, children between the ages of 4 and 5 are assigned to a class without needing any special tests.

At the end of each academic school year (mid-May), notices about enrollment for the next school year are available on our website and in the church bulletin. Enrollment for current students takes place in the 3rd-4th week of May, and new students can register in the 1st-2nd week of June.

To register, you can submit an application by directly entering the required information on the “Online Registration” page of our website. When you complete your online registration, you will receive an email confirming that your registration application has been successfully received. Afterwards, please check the instructions for payment to complete the registration process.

On the first day of classes, the homeroom teacher will distribute textbooks required for the year, along with a handout detailing the academic calendar and plan for the school year. In this handout, you will be able to find the necessary items to prepare ahead of each class.

Currently, our school operates a KSL class that provides Korean education to children whose native language is not Korean or who grew up in multicultural families. In this class, teachers and teacher assistants use a mixture of English and Korean to explain the Korean language and culture to the students, helping them overcome any difficulties and language barriers. In this manner, where teachers can adapt to the student’s current level and understanding of Korean, an environment of inclusivity and learning is promoted in these classes. Therefore, even if your child does not speak Korean at all, it is still possible to communicate with teachers and friends, and there will be no special difficulties for students to take lessons.

Our school follows the academic calendar of Canadian public schools, with a new school year beginning in September and ending in June of the following year. This includes winter break and spring break, and although there are separate semesters in principle we do not accept new registrations in the middle of the school year. However, if one of our current students can no longer attend classes due to personal reasons, additional registration may be possible due to vacancies in these special cases. Please email info@graceklcs.com for any updates regarding mid-semester registration.

Classes officially begin in September every year and run until June of the following year. Normally, 3 hours of classes are held every Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and there are holidays including winter and spring breaks during the academic year. For a more detailed schedule, please refer to the year-round class guide distributed at the beginning of the school year, or refer to our website (School Information -> Academic Calendar).

Currently however, as online classes are conducted during the pandemic, lesson hours for each class can vary by grade and their teacher – we encourage parents to please check the class hours for your children’s class by going to the class information page on our website.
